I just love that moment in a song when it takes me to the point of breathless spinetingling awe…when that connection is soo clear my whole body recognises it as telling my story….. It is amazing the power of a story. So what then makes a good love song. I believe it to be a number of things so lets pick 1 to start with. Firstly there is ownership of the actual story, it has to be real and something recognisable so that whoever hears it, hears it as a little bit of their story…then there is the heart aspect to that story nothing connects more that real experience, capturing the reality of someones life and love, the happiness and the pain…most love has an element of pain in it both good and bad… They say a picture paints a 1000 words….and I think a word paints a 1000 memory pictures full of feelings and emotions….these are critical to a good love song. Remembering it is all relative to each persons experience and capturing that is number 1. So think about your story, how you feel, where you were, what it made you want to shout out from the rooftops……. find the heart story and you will have a great love song…..
